Edmonton, AB – This Christmas, The Mustard Seed aims to give the gift of dignity through the Family Gift Centre presented by MHCare Medical. At this year’s 7th annual Family Gift Centre, community members living in poverty or who are experiencing homelessness are invited to shop for toys for the young ones in their lives for only $2.00, affording them the dignity that comes with purchasing a gift for their loved one.

The mission of the event, which runs December 6-7, is to create an experience that restores dignity and empowers caregivers to purchase a gift for the kids in their lives. Many families in the Edmonton area live below the poverty line and the Family Gift Centre aims to alleviate the pressure that can arise during the holidays, ensuring there is something special under the tree for everyone.

“Our goal with the Family Gift Centre is to provide caregivers with an opportunity to choose gifts for their own children or those that they care for” explains Katie Kitschke, Director of Housing for The Mustard Seed. “We are striving to create an environment where those caregivers can feel a sense of pride in being able to choose items specifically for the children in their lives and bring the joy back into Christmas.”

The Mustard Seed is urgently calling on Edmontonians to donate unwrapped toys and gifts to the Family Gift Centre to make the event a reality.

“Donations of toys and gifts are so essential in making this event a reality” explains Kitschke. “We are hoping that the community will help us to make this Christmas a memorable one for those who are experiencing poverty or homelessness.”

This year's Family Gift Centre is presented by our generous sponsor MHCare Medical. “We are proud to support the 2022 Family Gift Centre, helping families right here in our own backyard with the opportunity to provide their young, loved ones a gift that they otherwise would not have been able to afford” states MHCare Medical President & CEO, Sam Mraiche.

Toy and gift donations are accepted until December 5 at The Mustard Seed Community Support Centre (10568 114 St. NW, Edmonton) from Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Please bring donations to the back of the building.
